Mrs. Yolanda Dionne Johnson was born on August 27, 1966, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Charles Eso Garner Sr. and Cassandra Gamble of Flint, Michigan. Yolanda attended Flint Community Schools and graduated from Flint Northern “Class of 1984.” Soon after high school she enrolled in Edwards Hair School where she mastered the “Art of making Hair Healthy” for many ladies in Flint and the surrounding areas. Yolanda was a Hair Guru for over 30 years.
Yolanda traveled to many cities to compete in hair shows, Detroit and Chicago, just to name a few. Mrs. Yolanda Johnson was a former employee of TRW Automotive (Delphi) UAW 467 Saginaw, MI, Y12, Alcoa, TN, Life Care Center of Blount County, TN, Asberry Place, Maryville, TN, Arconic, Alcoa, TN. She was a Nurse Tech at the University of Tennessee Medical Center Knoxville, TN until her passing.
Yolanda was a faithful member of St John Missionary Baptist Church Alcoa, TN where she sang in the choir and with the praise and worship team. She also sang with the Knoxville Gospel Opera and First Trinity Gospel choirs.
She leaves to cherish her memory, devoted and loving husband Horace (Bam) Johnson, daughter/niece Briana Brown whom she raised as her own, son Mister Johnson, daughter Mis (Arthur) Bell, grandchildren Eriana Rogers, Keonta Jones, Amarria & Mariah Wright, Amiyah Wright, Kameron Fleming, Myron Wright, Cedric Simpkins Jr., Kynnedi Fleming, Cieara Simpkins, Denver Johnson, Dallas Johnson; brother Jeffrey Brown, sister Kendra Goodman; goddaughter Dream Carter; adopted mothers, Mother MyrtesMason of Maryville, TN and Mother Poole of Flint, MI; devoted uncle & aunt Pastor Lissus& Margaret Walker of Burton, Michigan. Host of aunts, uncles, cousins and BFF Sandy Brown that Yolanda lovingly called Sita. Cousin Kanietha Walker, a special thanks for always hosting Bam & Londa.
Mrs. Yolanda Johnson was proceeded in death by mother Cassandra Gamble, brother Charles Jr., daughter/niece Brittany Brown, son Jermaine Johnson, mother and father-in-law Frank and Jaqueline Anderson, father-in-law Horace Johnson, maternal and paternal grandparents.
The family would like to express special thanks to Yolanda’s 8 West babies at University of Tennessee Medical Center, CVICU, Medical ICU doctors, nurses, staff, 12 East Comfort Care, hospice doctors, nurses and St John Missionary Baptist Church family Alcoa, TN. A special thanks to the Black, Goodwin, and Hodges Families for your caring help during our time of bereavement.
Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – noon on Saturday June 24, 2023 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Alcoa with funeral service to follow. Interment will follow service at Wilders Cemetery, Maryville. The body may be viewed from noon – 6:00 p.m. on Friday June 23, 2023 at Foothills Funeral Home, Maryville. www.foothillsfh.com
