Virginia Louise Black-Hooper-Glanton slept away peacefully Sunday morning November 14, 2021. She was born on October 9, 1926, to the union of John Black and Virginia Emmaline Craig. She was the eldest child of the union. She was a graduate of Hale High School in Maryville, TN. A graduate of Morristown College in Morristown, TN., a graduate of Tennessee A & I State University in Nashville, TN. She earned her teaching certificate from the state of Tennessee and taught in the Blount County school system until she retired.
Virginia joined the Church of God Louisville, TN, at an early age. After moving to Knoxville, she joined Concord Church of God under the leadership of her cousin Rev. Roy A. Stone Sr. After a change in leadership at Concord, she joined the Cherry Street Church of God and worshipped there until her illness started affecting her ability to drive and impaired her memory and physical health.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, John Black and Virginia Emmaline Ross, late husband, Ervin Glanton, daughter, Shirley Patterson, son, Ralph E. Hooper.
Virginia is survived by her son, Nathaniel L. Hooper, grandchildren; Reginald Hooper, Ieisa Hooper, Myron Hooper, Lashae Hooper, Nathaniel Hooper, Lydia Loudermilk, eight great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Audrey Glanton, a host of nieces and nephews, and devoted friends, Helen Walters, and Margaret Dunn.
Graveside service will start at 2:00 p.m. Friday November 19, 2021, at Hilltop Cemetery, Louisville, TN. The body may be viewed from noon – 6 p.m. Thursday November 18, 2021, at Foothills Funeral Home Final arrangements entrusted to Foothills Funeral Home. www.foothillsfh.com
