Marva Byers

August 17, 1947 — January 23, 2024

Marva Delois Byers affectionately known as “Aunt Loisy, Auntie, and Auntie Mom”, departed this life on Tuesday January 23, 2024.  She was born on August 17, 1947 to the late William and Winona (Hill) Byers. Marva worked for the Label Company for over 15 years and for Schlegels for over 20 years.  She was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church and later attended The House of God.  Marva was the first African American baby to be born at Blount Memorial Hospital, she was a civil rights activist and she attended Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s funeral.  Marva loved to sing, write poetry and stayed on top of the latest news. She was known as the “candy and popsicle lady” while living in Grayson Apartments, everyone loved Miss Marva and she loved everyone, she would give to anyone that she thought was in need.

Marva was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Betty Boyd and Olivia Byers Brown, brothers Larry Calvin Hill, Willie Byers and Walter Lewis Byers.  Special nephews Deon Byers Santos, Justin Santos, Niece Karen Boyd, and special great niece Hannah Tate (Babee).

Marva leaves to cherish her memory very devoted sisters Elder Paulette Pace, Deanna Santos-Felton, Very devoted brother Danny Byers, devoted Aunt Rose Gillespie.  Special daughter Ruzena Stichova, grandson nephew Jakobe Robinson, granddaughter nieces Camone Bond and Raven Robinson.  Nieces LaVetta Spann, Revonda Bond Robinson, Kathy Boyd, Tina Buckley, Coretta Mambo, Emily Santos, Catisha McGuire, Tonya Byers, Leslie Williams.  Nephews Leonard Brown Jr., Aundrae George and Carlos Pace.  Special Nephews DeAndre and Shaun Owens, Special Great Nephew Montrey Earls.  Very devoted friend Kunle Ajala, Special nieces Stephanie Hill and Candy Ward.  Special Nephew Corey Morgan.   Special cousins, Audrey Atkins, Carla Stacy, Shari McRae, Janie Wine and Mark Gillespie.  Special friends, Sandra Sudderth, Willie Mae Hannum, Glenda Coffin and Delois Bond, Addie Tate, Tamar Griffin, Ngaia Cobb, Darrell Orange, Kevin Adkins, numerous other family and friends.  A Special thanks to the Class of 65.

Services will be held at The House of God Church 160 Badgett Street, Alcoa, TN, officiating will be Elder Delois Bond. Receiving of friends will be from 12 noon – 1:00pm. Interment will be follow at Maple Grove Cemetery Maryville. Body may be viewed from noon – 6:00 p.m. on Monday January 29, 2024 at Foothills Funeral Home. www.foothillsfh.com
