Angela Lavette Prigmore Gardner was born on May 31, 1973, in Knoxville, Tennessee, and passed away on May 6, 2026. Angela was a loving daughter, sister, mother, family member, and friend whose presence left a lasting mark on the people blessed to know her. Angela lived with sickle cell disease, and throughout her life, she continued to live, love, and show up against the odds. She carried her experiences with strength and used her voice to spread awareness about sickle cell disease. While sickle cell shaped parts of her journey, it never captured the fullness of who Angela was: a woman of love, humor, resilience, and deep interest for others.
Angela was also protective, stylish, joyous, and deeply nurturing. She had a way of showing up for the people in her life with care, effort, and emotional generosity. Whether through a phone call, a smile or joke, a meal, a word of encouragement, or simply making time for someone, Angela gave from the heart. She loved her family and friends deeply and was known as someone who would offer support no matter what she may have been facing herself.
Further, Angela had a vibrant spirit. She loved fashion and had a special gift for finding good deals while shopping. She enjoyed playing games on her phone and keeping up with her favorite shows, often sharing updates about what was happening in them. She loved music, especially R&B and Christian songs, and her faith in God was an important part of who she was. Angela also loved going to the beach and spending time with her goddaughters, Evelyn and Emily Chambers.
Angela also loved to cook and bake, especially cakes, and she found meaningful ways to love others through conversation, laughter, and care. She was a helper, a giver, and an incredibly selfless person. Even when she was not feeling well or needed care herself, Angela still showed up for the people she loved.
Angela loved strongly and unconditionally. She loved her family dearly, and she loved her son, Aaron, with a devotion that will continue to be felt and remembered. Angela is survived by her father, James Edward Prigmore, Jr.; her brothers, Andre and Alan Prigmore; her son, Dr. Aaron JaVon Gardner; and her aunt, Carolyn Ann Thompson. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Mae Prigmore, and her grandparents, Berta Elaine Prigmore, James Edward Prigmore, Sr., Paul Thompson, and Aileen Thompson. Angela will be remembered for the way she cared for others so freely and so fully. Her legacy lives on in the phone calls, meals, laughter, prayers, stories, and strong presence she gave to the people she loved.
Family will receive friends on Monday, May 11, 2026 starting at noon with funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM at Mother Love Baptist Church, Louisville. Interment will follow the service at Sherwood Gardens, Alcoa. www.foothillsfh.com
